Ocean Rescue Marlo, formally amalgamated with the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association on the 6th January 2005. The new Flotilla celebrated the occasion with an Open day at Cape Conran.
The Marlo Flotilla operated out of a boat shed up until 2014 when the new facility was officially opened.
The Marlo Flotilla operates in both enclosed waters and the coastal waters of Bass Strait. When the entrance at Marlo is silted up, the rescue vessel CG21, is launched at Cape Conran.
The Snowy River is a major river in south-eastern Victoria. It originates on the slopes of Mount Kosciuszko, Australia's highest mainland peak, draining the eastern slopes of the Snowy Mountains in NSW, before flowing through the Alpine National Park and the Snowy River National Park in Victoria and emptying into Bass Strait at Marlo.
In 2008 the Marlo Flotilla was registered as a CFA Coast Guard Brigade, the partnership with CFA led to the joint funding opportunity to construction a new headquarters that would house both Coast Guard and CFA. Construction began in 2012, and was officially opened in 2013.

The official opening of the new joint facility for the CFA and VF21 Coast Guard at Marlo was held on April 27th, 2013. Clear blue skies greeted guests on arrival for the gala day.
The opening was conducted by MLA Tim Bull with many dignitaries attending including Darren Chester,
The facility has two drive through bays with room for two vehicles/boats each. The bays are separated by muster rooms, separate shower areas, radio rooms and a joint meeting room which is to be used by the town of Marlo residents as a community room for public events etc.
The investment of $1.2 million dollars is a great asset to both organisations and the culmination of much work by CFA and Coast Guard members.
There are eight media screens dotted around the facility covering all rooms that show the status of all calls wherever you are in the building. No one can say that this is not the bee’s knees of our squadron.
After the official opening, guests were invited to tour the facilities whilst a great BBQ of steaks, snags and salads was prepared.
The local secondary school band played a variety of music for light entertainment.
The start of building the new vessel by Cootacraft will commence in June. This will replace their 43 year old vessel. A good year for VF21 Marlo.

2014: Marlo Coast Guard will receive a new tow vehicle to support its flotilla thanks to $55,972 in Victorian Coalition Government funding, Member for Gippsland East, Tim Bull, announced this week.
“When the Marlo Coast Guard receives its new tow vehicle it will be even better equipped to respond to emergency situations on the surrounding coastline.
Mr Bull said the State Government would contribute the $55,972 from the Victorian Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP).
“This is an important vehicle for the flotilla as Marlo is a mobile coast guard who, at times, are required to travel to launch the vessel at nearby Cape Conran or further afield at places like Tamboon Inlet when responding to an emergency call out,” he said.
Mr Bull said Marlo Coast Guard has been well supported by local people and local companies including Dwyers in Bairnsdale which helped the flotilla with its purchase of the original tow-vehicle and was once again supporting the purchase of the replacement vehicle.
Marlo Volunteer Coast Guard Commander, Harry Ferrier, said members were delighted funding had been received to allow the flotilla to add the new tow vehicle to its emergency response capabilities.
“We are looking forward to receiving our new tow vehicle as the recently commissioned rescue vessel is heavier than our previous vessel and requires a bigger vehicle to tow with.” Mr Ferrier said.
Mr Bull said the Victorian Coalition Government is committed to providing our emergency services with the resources and equipment they need to keep Victorians safe and support stronger local communities.
Mr Bull said that the government had delivered $12.23 million for the 2014-15 Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment program (VESEP).
“The VESEP is a partnership between the State Government and communities that allow emergency services volunteers to purchase the latest equipment that will support the ongoing protection of all Victorians.
“In recognition of the significant contribution made by emergency services, the government has invested more than $48 million in the VESEP program since 2010,” he said.

March 2019 t’s great to see Marlo’s Deputy Flotilla Commander Gail Baird back onboard, she is pictured here with her daughter Holly on the Snowy River whilst training. What a great team!
November 2018 The Marlo Coast Guard had a call out today to rescue some plastic washed up on the beach at the entrance.
Looks a lot like seaweed, but it’s black plastic tubing. The plastic was safely retrieved and off to the tip tomorrow
